THUNDER BAY The Superior International Junior Hockey League unveiled Thursday its game jerseys, coaching staffs, a number of roster changes, its on ice officials and broadcasters for its upcoming All Star Game and Skills Competition which goes Wednesday, Nov. 29 at the Hippodrome in Eveleth, Minn.
Produced by Northland Distribution Ltd., and designed by Michael Hughes, the respective jerseys in the Border Battle format will see the Canadian born SIJHL all stars wearing red uniforms with Canada and a version of a moose on the front as well as a number of maple leafs below.
Serving behind the bench as coaches for the Canadian contingent will be Kurt Walsten of the defending SIJHL champion Dryden GM Ice Dogs along with Wayne Strachan and Nick Wreggitt of the Fort Frances Lakers along with Rob DeGagne of the Thunder Bay North Stars.
English River Miners head coach and general manager Derek Sweet Coulter will be unable to participate due to his commitments as an assistant coach with Team Canada West for the upcoming World Jr. A Challenge.
Guiding Team USA fortunes as coaches will be Cole Workman and Kaine Martell of the league leading Thief River Falls Norskies along with Todd Kreibich and Garrett Hendrickson of the Minnesota Iron Rangers.
The two teams will be assisted by equipment managers Don Dowswell of the North Stars and Wayde West of the Iron Rangers as well as by Lakers athletic trainer Hailey Clendenning.
## ## Meanwhile a number of injuries since the two rosters were announced has resulted in a number of replacement players being added to both squads.
For the Canadian SIJHL all stars, defenceman Brendan Jay of Dryden replaces injured Conner Keith from Fort Frances while Thunder Bay forward Ryan Mignault steps in for teammate Avery Siau of the North Stars.
As for Team USA, forward Eli Kinsman from Minnesota moves in for Johnny Bennis from Thief River Falls and D man Peter Grytdahl of the Norskies takes over for injured GM Ice Dogs blueliner Tristan Knott.
Selected to officiate the SIJHL All Star Game are veteran league officials Brett Klosowski and Tod Plackner, who will be the referees, while Jace Friedlieb and Taylor Vichorcek will be the linesmen.
Calling all the action and providing all the play by play for the entire event will be the long time voice of the Dryden GM Ice Dogs Mike Ebbeling along with former Minnesota Iron Rangers broadcaster Dan Bradley.
